An underlying theme seemed to be that, generally speaking,
ice jigs can be quite small and still catch big fish. Even jigs that many anglers would classify as ‘panfish’ fodder can be awesome on walleyes, bass, pike and other big predators.

As chief lure designers for custom jigs and spins for the past 20 years, they have developed 100s of colors. In fact, fish (and the fishermen) have over 1,500 combinations to choose from. So what’s new in
ice jigs this year, more colors, bright colors. they have two new patterns for most effective panfish jigs, the Gill Pill and the Diamond Jig. They are bumblebee and orange tiger.

These colors are great in stained water all day long and in clear water at first light and late in the day. If you’ve ever spent any time peering down the ice hole from a dark Frabill tent you will notice that in clear water as the sun gets bright, you can see a lot better and so can
the fish. Too bright of
ice jigs will spook them off. Usually, though, this theory is dark and natural colors in clear water and bright and glow colors in stained water. At night, glow lures really work well, but sometimes even at night the glow is too bright in clear water and it spooks the fish. When it comes to catching fish, nothing works better than adding plastic to your favorite ice jigs. And adding plastic equates to adding more color. Orange sherbet, crawdaddy, motor oil, cotton candy/glow, catalpa worm, pearl-treuse, lemon lime and
candy corn are eight new colors that added to Custom Jigs and Spins Finesse Plastic, Ratsos and Shrimpos. These are all great choices for bluegill, perch, crappie and white bass.

Favorite technique is to start with a small jig and work bigger. If fishing clear, weedy water begin with a size 10 black Ratso. Then experiment with other colors like motor oil, smoke glitter and then maybe end up with catalpa worm If the fish get more aggressive and switch to a larger size lure in the same color. When the fishing slows then drop down to the smaller size lure in the same color or start switching colors again. Ice jigs make your fishing so fun.
