Both the zafu and zabuton are filled with kapok which is what has traditionally been used in Japan for centuries. It’s softer, lighter and longer lasting than cotton. This meditation cushion set including zafu and zabuton.
•    Zafu
The zafus are double stitched and made with fabric that is one hundred percent conventionally grown cotton with low-enviromental impact dyes. A hidden opening behind the handle allows for addition or removal of stuffing material to adjust to individual heght/ density. This is important because it allows customization of height. May other brands don’t have this feature. The density is firm and supportive without being rock hard. This is the preferred density based on 23 years of customer feedback. The zafu is 2lbs and 13” x 6”.

•    Zabuton
The zabuton are suffed with kapok like the zafus which is softer and more resilient than cotton batting. Using kapok makes the zafus hypoallergenic, dust mite and mold proof and is more environmentally friendly(grown without herbacides, unlike cotton). Kapok trees are not bothered by pests so it thrives without the use of chemicals and naturally enhance the soil it inhabits.  Kapok fill is lighter than cotton, its firmness supports at least 30 times its weight, it is a breathable fill so it allows air circulation, and is re-useable for generations. As a fill for your meditation cushions, it will clump and compress less than cotton fiber. Benefits include extra height and width for taller, less flexible meditators and a more solid support for those who want firmer meditation cushions. Drawback to the use of this fiber is that it is highly flammable. It makes the mat lighter and also will last much longer, in fact kapok cushions have been pased down for generations in India. The zabuton is 4lbs and 25” x 31” x 2”.
